Part-time Silver BELLS Coordinator

The National Federation of the Blind of Virginia (NFBV) seeks a program coordinator for its statewide Silver BELLS program, a program designed to empower blind and low vision seniors to take charge of their lives and reclaim their independence.

Role Description

The NFBV is seeking a part-time program coordinator to drive a curriculum for blind and low vision Virginia residents. The candidate will oversee a team of instructors, volunteers, administrators, and consultants in the planning and execution of informational sessions and weekend retreats. This individual is ultimately responsible for overall program success, but candidates can propose a team approach to delegate certain aspects of the below responsibilities to other contractor staff. The National Federation of the Blind of Virginia recognizes that candidates bring their own mix of skills and talents to the role. Approximate time commitment: 20 hours per week from October 2025 through April 2026 Location: This is a remote position with a preference for individuals with a strong understanding of state geography, senior resources, and retirement communities. The coordinator will be expected to attend the 2025 NFB of Virginia State Convention and the monthly retreats conducted over 3 weekends in early 2026. Outreach events may also require engagement in locations throughout Virginia.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage the overall program including the strategic direction, relationship management, engagement of stakeholders, and staffing.
  • Serve as a project manager to develop, articulate, and drive the plan to ensure contractors and volunteers know who does what and by when.
  • Through written reports and meetings, ensure the NFB of Virginia President is informed of progress, impediments, and risks to program success.
  • Participate in the development and execution of a diverse funding strategy for the program’s long-term sustainability.
  • Oversee the creation and implementation of an evaluation strategy with clear benchmarks.
  • Oversee the development of curriculum and schedules for virtual and weekend programming.
  • Oversee, manage, and supervise logistics, administrative, consulting, and training personnel.
  • Revamp and help manage an outreach strategy emphasizing participant recruitment and partnership building with weekly reporting on progress to ensure full program utilization.
  • Coordinate closely with the National Federation of the Blind of Virginia for follow-up opportunities, membership involvement, and collaboration at the chapter and affiliate levels.

This position reports to the NFBV president. Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Requirements for Personnel Contractors

Everyone contracted to provide services to the NFBV is required to successfully complete a background check. If awarded a contract, individuals will be providing services subject to the terms outlined in the independent contract. The compensation excludes additional benefits of any kind.
